As for the buildings, you must be refering to the timber framed houses and barns, not Helsinki's high rise business district :)

So yes, there is a similar vernacular Architecture, mostly in older or rural areas..........Monster Tractors too :)

Yes, the käsityöläismuseo is worth a visit, 200 year old original wooden craftsmen's houses in their original location. They show the old techniques and now have some seasonal things going on.. Thanks for formalising my very vague suggestion :) Watch out if it's icy. There is quite a steep slope up...

Speaking in terms of Modern Architecture:

There's Aalto's Turun Sanomat office and also a rather nice new library building.

There is also an old wooden neighbourhood museum which is interesting too (not sure what it is officially called, but it's just over the hill near the windmill :) )
