Re: New job offer - Can I break contract without penalty with a two-week notice?
I guess you need to read your contract. The terms will be there. Many contracts have a trial period, for example 3 months or 6 months. During that period either side - employer or employee - can terminate the agreement with no notice or penalty. I once did that 2 weeks after starting a job because I...

How to get your parcel through customs when system down
Yesterday I tried to clear 2 parcels containing Christmas gifts through customs. These originated outside of the EU. These were not high-value items so no customs duty to pay, but required clearance even so. One of the parcels was announced via a letter in our postbox. I followed the link given in t...

Re: Attachments to hot water pipes?
Technically this could be done in five minutes but at least with electricity usage the supplier would notice the drop in consumption and if you were too greedy (eg switched to 100% pirated electricity) they would wonder why an inhabited house suddenly has zero consumption. You would think so but ma...

Where in Finland? Your rent estimate seems high for a lot of locations.

Re: Asokodit EV charging
Normally with a gasoline vehicle, these do not get a limited range due to very low temperatures, (and when empty, you can go get a jerrycan with gasoline). EV's do get a limited range at subzero temperatures.... Both get limited range at subzero temperatures. Without preheating the gas engine you c...

Re: is it ok to change your company type after founding (e.g toiminimi to Oy or vice versa)
From what I remember, he said the process is quite complex and most people would need advice from an accountant and/or a lawyer. Also the different company types can have different accounting requirements and the transition between them can be tricky for non-accountants to handle. I took that to mea...

I have recently been told the same thing by someone who should know what he is talking about. He said it is possible but usually easier to simply start another company. Also cheaper when you consider accountants & lawyers fees.

Re: Upgrading radiators in old log house
If new ones are better getting heat out of the water then it is up to the boiler to put more heat in the water. That is true and your phrasing explains it very clearly & simply. If you have super efficient radiator that can extract all the heat from the water, then the first one will be really ...

I notice that you have managed to post another topic. Does this mean that the problem you experienced has been resolved (or has resolved itself)? Or are you still having problems posting?

Re: Flat for rent: what are the requirements for tenants?
The only time we have done anything like that we used an agency. Then we didn't have to worry about things like that because the agency checked income etc. They did ask us about one possible renter who did not meet some criteria or other that they usually applied and we decided not to rent to them. ...

Are there any government jobs open only to citizens? If so, would such jobs be open to naturalised citizens? I am thinking of work for the police or the armed forces or at embassies for example.

Re: brexit: permanent resident status for brits
I'm not sure, but I suspect things are a little different for you. Going from memory, and it is a long time ago, I think I got an initial temporary residence permit which lasted a year (or 2 years?). After that I got a permanent residence permit. If things were the same for you then you would have g...

Re: brexit: permanent resident status for brits
Mirgi have updated their website to allow brits who previously had right of residence as an EU citizen to change their status to permanent residents under the withdrawal agreement. Just a heads up for anyone who has been in Finland for as long as I have. It seemed wrong & illogical that (despit...

Re: Paypal Payments
I don't see how this can be true. Paypal is just the way you receive payments and it says nothing about what taxes are included in that payment or how you declare that income. Your best action may depend on whether you are operating as a company or self-employed, I don't know. When I, operating as a...

If my area is anything to go by you should also bear in mind that the presence of a bus stop does not necessarily mean a bus has been seen there at any time this century.
