If you haven't registered here and you are working for a UK employer then I guess you are a tourist...?
Your EU healthcard covers you if you use public sector healthcare.

Re: The initial stages of looking at moving

Hello! From what I can gather, the amount of people cycling in Finland is very impressive, and the infrastructure is far greater than here in the UK. Would anyone happen to know what the cycling job industry is like in Finland, from retail to professional teams to infrastructure and Authorities? My...

Re: My Experience With Integration Finnish Classes So Far

Sounds like a good approach. The whole concept of Finnish as a Foreign Language is relatively new. When I came to Finland in 2001 there were very few books for learning Finnish and the ones that did exist were just awful. The courses were also really dire: rote learning of grammar rules, gap-filling...

Re: Cats outside in Finland

My cat goes outside several times a day even in -20C  she's a farm-born 'mouser' that lives in suburban Espoo during the winter and the back of beyond for the rest of the year (May thru October-ish). It's a problem. I know the neighbours don't like cats but I assume that they will shoo her away...

Re: My Experience With Integration Finnish Classes So Far

I don't think you will find an integration class where English is used as a language of instruction in the classroom. There are so many people learning Finnish who have little or no knowledge of English, it doesn't make sense to use English. And, to be honest, the two languages are so different in t...

Re: Any apps recommendations for learning fi?

Which Worddive app are you using for Finnish? Try the YKI course. It has full sentences (quite simple ones but subject/verb/object) under different topics. The YKI course is the one that prepares you for the Keski Taso language test which is needed in order to apply for citizenship. Worddive has a s...

Re: Kesämökki / summer cottage as permanent residence?

I think that's true. A permanent residence must meet all the plumbing, wastewater regulations etc. So definitely worth talking to the local planning office. There are also municipal tax rate considerations. Our mökki is in Raasepori and the tax rate is much higher there than in Espoo where we live. ...

Re: Is ''Kukkamulta'' suitable for growing vegetables also?

Would be happy to discuss fruit and veg growing with you! Am also in Espoo but with a fruit/veg garden at our mökki in Raasepori. Growing from seed can be hit and miss without a heated greenhouse. I tend to buy a lot of plants in the spring: tomatoes, peppers, kale etc. Because I just got fed up hav...

Re: Startup tax in Finland

Or are you thinking of national insurance contributions (YEL?)? If I remember correctly, there is a 3-year discount for those. Something like this. I do not remember completely but I think, I heard something like this in any seminar related with startup. Can you please give me link for more info? O...

Re: Moving FROM EU with my Car

Be careful with regards to insurance. I knew a couple who were living in Finland and driving a UK reg car, which they crashed. The car was a write-off but the UK insurance company refused to scrap the car in Finland (it would have had to be officially imported into Finland in order for it to be scra...

When in March and where in Finland?
You might need winter tyres etc to get it registered... But I guess you've got all that info already.
