Re: Swedish classes

I love studying Finnish and will continue to study it. But with the potential for language requirements for a permanent residence permit, I’m strongly considering learning Swedish just to pass that test. Have any of you chosen to study Swedish? Where did you take classes? Are you a decent student? ...

Re: Customs declaration for unknown package

If you are not particularly bothered about receiving it, just skip declaring it and it will be returned to sender. Otherwise I would try to contact the sender on file to get the required information. Thanks, yes I am waiting for them to reply. Perhaps I am a bit paranoid, but it crossed my mind tha...

Customs declaration for unknown package

Hi, about one month ago I got a text from posti that I had a package coming my way from outside the EU. The package was shipped last friday and yesterday I got information that is waiting for customs clearance. My problem is that I have no idea what this may be, who ordered it or even if this is for...

Re: Outlet in or around Helsinki

You're probably refering to Helsinki outlet . There are indeed several sports shops there, plus you'll find partioaita on the other side of Ring3. In spit of it's name it's already in Vantaa. I'd say it's probably worth a visit if you are looking for some savings and have already visit the main stor...

Re: Store returns/liquidation Pallets

There's ResQ, an app for restaurant meals that would otherwise be wasted, karkkirtori a store with several locations for candies (though pricey) and TH-Market near Ikea in Vantaa, for liquidation of insured goods - check their fb for the arrival of unusual batches. OP didn't mention the location so ...

Re: Live/sleep in a car? :) In Helsinki!! During winter!!?

There's a min series in YLE about a couple who moved into a van with their dog for 2 or 3 years - should be still in areena, called "Van life" see https://areena.yle.fi/1-61882614 . They spent their winters elsewhere, in the south, where winters are mild, while working remotely. They had t...

Re: Child residence after divorce in case parents live in different cities

Hello, I have a 2 year-old son. We are separating. My ex-husband already has a new girlfriend. I got a job offer in another city, apr. 250km away from where my ex lives. He suggested that our son will stay with each parent for every 2 weeks (50/50). I just wonder that can a kid legally join 2 diffe...

Re: Digital kills traditional

So you tell me I need to throw away 15 years of education, 70k and everything I know, and start something else? Not my job to tell you what you think and believe, but it comes across as if you feel entitled to a career and job, a space for you in your choosen field because you've invested a lot of ...

Re: HelsinkiTimes & China

Hi, Is HelsinkiTimes a mouthpiece of China in Finland? Why do they have a section dedicated to China and only Chinese language other than English for site? Kiitos :) HT needs to pay the bills. Some of their OPs are so poorly written that I hope they get paid to publish them. Others are more dubious...

Re: US Citizen - Sole Custody of 3 Children

Sorry to hear that your boys are left with only one reliable parent. As someone who did plenty of mistakes I can leave you with two advices: 1) don't ever sign away anything without getting a lawyer involved. Even if you don't need her to pay child support, you should get the decision. 2) Document, ...

Re: Gyms/yoga near Kruununhaka, Helsinki?

Watch out for long term binding contracts. Just got a flier in the mail from Exilia, advertising something for 0 Eur. I forgot what it was bc my eyes were directed to the small print, where it reads that it may cost from 560 to 1060 eur. I am sure there's people for who this is a good deal, and will...

Re: Toiminimi taxation - business case

I think business taxation is why car leasing is still a thing, you should prob look into it if your goal is to optimize taxation (others may know how or if that applies to sole traders). Will your taxable "trade income" be 50000 - 40000*25% (depreciation of the car) - 30000 (loan) = 10000 ...

Re: Toiminimi taxation - business case

1) That's how it should work. However... 2) You cannot deduct an expense like a car over a single year. You prob should have an accountant advise you, like Upphew said. If you want to educate yourself Ukko has a series of articles explaining TMI taxation in simple language, like Km deductions or tra...
