Re: A Canadian in need of helpful advise :)

To put it into perspective I was offered employment by one of these during my first year in Helsinki, €9.25/hour and approximately 40 hours per month so if you do the maths, there is not a lot of money to be made as some others have mentioned. Name and shame!! Never heard of anyone getting ...

Re: A Canadian in need of helpful advise :)

CELTA certification. Would this be a good idea, or is it very difficult to find a job teaching English? Also, is there any chance of getting a job before moving (if I can prove that I have permanent resident status) or do you have to be in Finland in order to find a job? Do a search...there's been ...

Re: Boxing for complete beginners in Helsinki

Interesting first post.

Aren't two of the instructors English?

Have you trained there? What's the FMA like? Any full contact / DBMA style?

Re: Boxing for complete beginners in Helsinki

Here's a whole list of clubs in Helsinki: http://www.kamppailulajit.net/kaupungit/helsinki.html Nyrkkeily = Boxing Kickboxing and Thai Boxing are quite obvious. The list is a bit out of date, but I am sure there's something there. Not sure if you want kickboxing specifically or Muay Thai is ok too. ...

Re: Canadian LF Work

Most of the TEFL schools have a kinda open application thing and are always "Looking for trainers". They like to have a database of all the teachers in the area. Sadly, it means nothing at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong, it's cool you are trying to help...I just don't want the OP to get thei...

Re: Grappling - Espoo/Helsinki

Dunno if you've trained anything here or not (obviously) but Finland loves it's beginner's courses. So there's usually some gear in the gym you can borrow...If you want to wear the gyms smelly, snot and blood stained shin guards that is. You're usually expected to get your own gum shield and box tho...

Re: Grappling - Espoo/Helsinki

There's a fair few... Here's a list based on location of various MAs. http://www.kamppailulajit.net/kaupungit/index.html Note submission wrestling, BJJ and MMA (Vapaaottelu) are under different headings. As everywhere else...a MMA club will probably do seperate BJJ and SW classes. So worth checking ...

Re: Circumcision Surgery Options for my son

The American Academy of Pediatrics (1999) stated that studies suggest that neonatal circumcision confers some protection from penile cancer, The American Medical Association states that circumcision, properly performed, protects against the development of phimosis. Of course they would say that.......

Re: Moving to Espoo: English speaking Vacancy

If you are after TEFL...best bet is to hit up all the language schools. I don't know how old this list is but a lot of the big companies are on it...some no longer exist and there is others. http://www.eslbase.com/schools/finland Work has been quiet the past few years because of the economic situati...

Re: Doorway Chin-up Bar / Doorway Pull Up Bar

Latvia?

You should have teamed up with these monsters and got a work out in!

In the meantime, if you're serious about doing some pull ups, check your local parks...a lot of them have pull up bars and bars for doing dips etc.

Kill Arman DVD?

Anyone know if Kill Arman is available with English subs? I've had a scan around the usual on-line shops but nothing is coming up!

The sounds of pain are universal but...

Re: Doorway Chin-up Bar / Doorway Pull Up Bar

You can get them from all over these days, Anttila, Stockmann etc. And browse your local body building shop. Most common ones these days are the detachable (whatever) types, and some you can do press up and dips on. Like these: http://www.kendallgiles.com/images/chinup_bar.jpg http://simplyfitnessge...
