Re: Brexit 29 March 2019 what will happen to us Brits?

Does sound bit alarming and alarmingly vague:

If that means dealing with Migri, then just good luck with that bureacratic nightmare...

Re: Moving to Finland (Seinajoki)

Hello Everyone, This is Mithun, I am moving to Seinajoki, Finland in October 2018. I will be studying at Seamk. Please keep me in your prayers. Thanks to all. If I were you I would keep the "keep me in your prayers" talk under lock as soon as you enter Finland. It is not customary to talk...

Re: Moving from Australia for army service.

To the people who said don't come, I'm very glad I didn't listen and I did, been a fantastic experience so far, made boat loads of friends and meet someone new every day, it's a great time. Very nice to hear! The army is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but there really are plus sides too. I ab...

Re: Phony Bagels - Again!

In any case, the NY bagel is the origin of the 'bagel' culture west of the Vistula plains. When I was a kid no one ever heard of bagels west of NY - and was only a couple of decades behind the pizza explosion. But what about Montreal? - people say it's the Montreal bagels that are the real deal... ...

Re: YTK or Union ?

I've been a member of the YTK for many years with some intervals of being "lomautettu" or unemployed and they have been very good, and their online services are really excellent: basically no need to queue in the phone for customer service. You can also buy legal support insurance from the...

Re: Giving power of attorney to a family member

Quick googling suggest that you can give the power of attorney so someone can pay your bills for a time or for one time draw out. Some of that info was few years old, so better get confirmation from the bank. Yeah, they will have various "valtakirja"-forms available though you can easily ...

Re: Real anchovies

the Abba 'sprat' - marinated with all kinds of spices and SUGAR! This import - will be fine for pizza - but horrible for Jansonin Kiusaus! (actually - on re-thinking - real anchovies used for JK would probably not be horrible - just QUITE different - BUT Abba's 'anjovis' on pizza would be pretty ho...

So those anjovis-cans are not actually anchovies as meant in this thread? You live and you learn! I've been wondering about anchovy pizzas...

Yeah, such idiotic thing...

Re: Neighbor with demoniacal kid

Being a parent to an autistic 7 year old son, I find it totally possible that the child could be autistic. You can't usually tell it from the looks, but being loud and not in an age-typical way is quite common. I would not contact the neighbours or the mother without knowing if it really is a case o...

Re: Moving for PhD -- shipping a vehicle from Canada et al.

Oh and the new metro scandal... ooops, how could anyone not see that coming. This makes me so angry! The councils are in all sorts of financial trouble and cutting even essential services and then, in a project which everyone knows (from experience) that could go very wrong unless profess...

Re: A vibrant amateur drama scene in English in Helsinki

Anyway, it was funny, relevant and slightly disconcerting! And 'merde' for the rest of the run. Yeah, I like the edginess too, it's a funny play but not irrelevant or unchallenging at all. It's a strange thing, this referendum - such a fundamental question to be decided in quite a hurry... And it s...

Re: A vibrant amateur drama scene in English in Helsinki

I'm blowing my own horn as I've been involved for several years in the Finn-Brit Players and do recommend our brilliantly sour "dissatisfied expat clashing culturally in Finland" comedy, The Finnish Play - six performances in early June, do come! https://www.facebook.com/events/6951486772...
