Re: fired on first day of job

Is she though? She is allowed to decline to answer. That's different to lying. You are allowed to lie with questions like these: http://www.taloussanomat.fi/tyo-ja-koulutus/2012/11/26/saako-tyohaastattelussa-valehdella-kylla-ja-ei/201242622/139 Or, more precisely, they cannot fire you for having li...

Re: Sauna

That's a pretty broad question, you might want to tell more exactly what kind of information you are insterested in. But you can for instance start with the Finnish Sauna Society. Note the "Sauna Information" menu at the top of the page.

If it's mozzarella sticks you want you can find them in lots of restaurants (for instance in Burger King) and the frozen food section in most stores.

Re: Johnny Rockets (or other similar) in Finland?

There's one in Tampere that is pretty close to a Johnny Rocket: http://www.ravintola.fi/ravintolaketju/american-diner/
Ah, apparently they have a few other places than in Tampere, too. Otherwise, I don't think there are other diner type restaurants here.

Re: Joining the Finish Defense Forces

You probably need to contact the Finnish Defence Forces directly and ask them. You can find the contact information here: http://www.puolustusvoimat.fi/en/ There is lots of information there in general about the Finnish Defence Forces, too. There are most probably other areas where having a military...

Blood work went well, but she wouldn't let me go until I told her my social number and she made sure it checked with the test results she was holding in her hand. Was it the test results or the vials with blood? Because they always ask nowadays for name and social security number and double check w...

Re: where I can get these baby items

Also, is gripe water avaliable in Finland, if not is there any alternative. No gripe water, unless some ethnic stores stocks it. Ask the pharmacy for what they would recommend for whatever issue with your baby you would want the gripe water for. For instance, if the baby has gas in the intestines y...

Re: Harassment and assault at Stockmann Dept store, Helsinki

While browsing through the jackets - I picked up three of them - tried them in the trial room and left all of them there as they didn't fit me. Just as an aside... the culture here is to return the items back to the racks, not leave them in the changing room. So this is probably what triggered thei...

Re: The BBC on Education in Finland

There was a rebuttal to this in Helsingin Sanomat (sorry, in Finnish): http://www.hs.fi/ulkomaat/a1429067386486 One good point there was that when the Finnish system was as its most traditional the successes were pretty mediocre. Also, that many countries train their students for the Pisa tests (and...

Re: Working For Free. Good Way To Gain Experience In Finland

particularly in finland, in some working areas people are almost expected to work for free for some time - because social security is so good, there's no need to squeeze out a few bucks (one could say it's some sort of social welfare state slavery). Huh? What areas would that be? Definitely not in ...

Re: Wanting a better life for our children (from US)

The biggest question you need to ask yourself is exactly what you are looking for and does a new country provide enough of that to offset the disadvantages you put your family in (not knowing the language and culture, getting a job for you and in the future your children getting a job). So, what are...

Re: Can people stand as independent cadnidates in elections?

Are there any people in practice who are standing as independents? Sure! For instance this guy is: http://www.iltasanomat.fi/vaalit2015/art-1427678319428.html Their chances of actually getting elected... pretty slim. They just don't have the power and visibility behind them that a political party c...
