Middle-Eastern Store? &Question For Turkish Food Experts

Postby chickensexer » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:13 pm

Hello Dear All,

Does anyone know of Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern/Turkish grocery store somewhere near Iso-Omena? Or whatever other store that would have kataifi dough, rose water, decent tahineh, chickpeas, lentils, phyllo dough, kunafah dye, halal meat, preferably good fresh lamb and stuff like that? I know there is a store somewhere in Entrese shopping in Espoonkeskus but I would like to find something closer to home.

And another question. Filo-takina in regular supernarket - how close it is to the real thing?

And third one, since we are talking about it, if there are sime experts here: to make phyllo at home, what's rhe preferred flour? Just regular karkea vehnäjauho, or durum, or even some quantity if semolina? In which proportions?

Thanks in advance for all info.

Hm.. Hakaniemi is actually farther away from me than Entrese. I think. And there is rose water In Finland. I got mine here but i think it was either organic ir fair trade thing, or something like that, so it's pricy.

If you get desperate / are in the area, then there is a Turkish shop in Hakaniemi that has most of your list (I've never looked for the pre-made phyllo, but they have freezer items so might have it). It's the shop in below ground, in the metro station, near the Hakaniemi Tori entrance. It's not the cheapest of the Hakaniemi ethnic shops, but decent and less than the import sections at Kesko shops.
