What are the best seats at Hartwall arena?

Postby Cloudberry » Wed Sep 29, 2010 12:11 am

Thinking of going to a concert at Helsinki's Hartwall arena but would like to pick the seats I'd like before I book the tickets online. I'm assuming you can pick your seats if they're available? Is there anyone who's been to a concert at Harwall-areena before and willing to share their insight? This is a seating map to the arena http://www.hartwall-areena.com/en/index.php?id=118

What about the different price ranges, does anyone know how the seats are graded?

well for ice hockey I always sit in 304 or 315 front or second rows.

I guess they are not the best for a concert though :(

I watched Jokerit beat JYP yesterday in 2nd row of 315... perfect :D

I thought about your question and I could easily see the goal areas (where I guess the stage is) from those seats...

Only a personal view, but if you can't get into A, B, or C on the floor it's pretty much all one. You are bound to get some git behind you who objects to your standing up and dancing. Hence aisle seats are probably best. Sound will almost inevitably be porridge, since it's a sports arena not a concert hall, so getting near the soundboard is also a start. At least you'll be getting the best available porridge.

I believe it's assigned seating all around. The front or middle floor sections are definitely the best. The back balconies are really high up, I was seated in them to see Leonard Cohen and had a bit of vertigo at the beginning - because they're so high they have to be severely raked to provide good visibility, so they're almost vertical. There aren't any bad seats, but it is a really big arena so if you're at the back you're reliant on the screens, and opera glasses or field binoculars might be an idea.

The sound is actually amazingly good* for such a massive hall. They've really done their homework when planning the layouts of the speaker clusters and whatnot. Leonard Cohen's band came through crystal clear and unmuddied even high up off to one side, probably the best live sound I've ever heard from any artist.

* Back in the day when I saw the Smashing Pumpkins at Hartwall, there were some issues with standing waves on deep Eb notes. This probably still applies, since the solution would be to significantly alter the basic structure of the hall or at least build in some serious baffles. Most artists don't spend a lot of their time playing deep Eb notes, though.. unless they're the Pumpkins. Or Alice In Chains. Or most other 90s alt-rock holdovers, come to think of it.

I was kind of wondering about this as well as I have two sets of RUSH tickets. When I saw them before I was in the first rows off the floor. This time I have two of those and two on the floor. But if I remember right there was some kind of chairs down there on the floor but the tickets are just general admittance so kind of wondering about down there. As in, is it kind of first come first serve down there or what?

Do you have to buy a ticket to a corresponding seat or like do you choose any seat once you enter the areena? how does this work?
Thanks
