I'm always amazed at people having problems finding food and ingredients here - most stuff is available. As an example, this is what I eat http://blog.enogastronomist.com (also in Finnish for those who like translation http://blog.enogastronomisti.com)

Re: Food in Finland
Nice blog & pictures! And urgh... now I'm hungry!
I think one reason is that you are using basic ingredients, most of the "where can I find" seems to be for some specific brand of "something in a bottle"... or similar why-on-earth-do-you-assume-we-are-still-in-Kansas stuff. Of course even amongst basic ingredients it can get a bit hard when looking for more "exotic" (from Finnish point of view) ingredients. (Although, truth be told, quite a lot of the "where can I find..." posts make me question if the poster has even been to a store here.)

Or anywhere... supermarkets in any country seem to work more or less with the same "logic"... I think they're the RRHWS members who have had the maid do the shopping.Although, truth be told, quite a lot of the "where can I find..." posts make me question if the poster has even been to a store here.

not everything was easy to find. We ended up getting the sweetbreads (kateenkorva) from Renin Liha.

Heh... that falls under "exotic from Finnish point of view". I'm sure it has been more popular historically, but now... I don't think most would even know what it is (and, for that matter, the only offal most have ever eaten is liver and blood in verilettu and mustamakkara). I've only eaten it once (dinner at a fancy restaurant that my then employer paid for... oh, the good ol' days of pre-it-bubble-bursting). But yes, something like that is probably only found from butcher's shops, which in themselves are not easy to find. It might be possible that you could order it even to a supermarket meat counter, though.Mook wrote:not everything was easy to find. We ended up getting the sweetbreads (kateenkorva) from Renin Liha.
