Like minded foodies and coconut question....
I was just wodnering if there are any people who love to cook out there. I love to cook Asian food. pretty much from all areas.
I'm half Japanese who is ffrom Melbourne Austrealia so I love Japanese food but also South East Asian food.
I'm currently in India and placed myself in a house with a kitchhen and now just practicing each day and mastering techniques.
Anyway.
I was just wondering if there's anyone who has a passion for cooking. Who makes things from scratch.
I'm moving to Finland soon and was just wondering if there's any like minded people as i was thinking abuot certain ativites.
Such as cooking courses as such or certain charity projects or even people who just want to talk about cooking.
Thanks
Marcus
PS. Does anyone know if you can buy fresh frozen grated coconuts flesh from the Asian stores.
if not how much a matuer coconuts from the supermarket.
Just wondering

Nice recipes.
i lived in Finland for two previously and I didn't fall in llove with Finnish food.
Thats the main reason why I want to meet others to promot good food.
i don't care about making profits from cooking courses (in fact out restaurant days's profits will go to charity. Will tell more later on) but just want to pass knowledge on that there is more to Japanese food than sushi, the wonderful salads from the middle east, the balance of flavours from Asia and the superb curries from India that arent on menus in Finland, ie beetroot curry.
This would be great to see in Finland I think.

Actually, restaurants offering cooking courses is quite popular for company parties, like little Christmas. But the lessons are in Finnish, usually. Also, local adult schools, etc. usually offer lessons to Finns for making different international foods. Like everywhere, there are foodies and people who are really into food, and the ecological food movement is quite trendy at the moment. You really have to work to find these folks, under the sea of mass-market food outlets and people too busy to cook. And that's a lot easier if you speak Finnish.
For your coconut questions - yes and yes: some of the shops in Hakaniemi offer frozen coconut flesh, as well as fresh. And then there are milks, creams and powders in various canned forms, and standard dried flakes. Only thing I haven't found is bottled coconut water, but I haven't looked too hard.

Yeah I know the ecological movement. im just looking to anyone really who know World food and into food that conjures up taste of beyond.
Even migrants who know a family Pho recipe or someone that want to produce a proper Ramen (Hanabi in Atmpere is not proper).
i know there must be immigrants who miss this flavours as well so what do they do?
Don't tell me we've all converted to brown bread and cheese?

So finns dont have "food culture", it isnt "world food" and its "not good"...
Dont count on that youll have lot of friends with those ideas.
Finnish food is invented and upgraded in last 10,000 years by ingrediends we have readily available and its good. It can be acguired taste but its good to me.
Pushing superiority of your food will only cause resentment on locals.
What i know about finns they are ready and willing to try different things but if you come and say "your food is !"#¤%, eat this superiour food".... Dont.
I dont care what you think, you should care what average finn things. Average finn is willing to try different stuff but with your attitude... shell kick your ass because you just insulted not just her but everyone in her family up to few generations.
Yesterday i made kampsu and "puikulaperunoista tehty perunamuusi" and "lingonberry puree", that is something i learned from my granma who learned that from her granma and who knows where she learned it. Old food and its excellent and its comfort food at best and it tasted great. No noodles can give me that feeling what i get when i eat kampsu and now youre telling me thats not "world food" or "good food" or "culture". DONT!.
I have tried food from all around of world and food made from people all around of world but i havent found anything better than kampsu, poronkäristys or paistettu muikku. There is good foods and i do make and eat those because its easy to do but better than finnish food, no.

Re: Like minded foodies and coconut question....
Sorry to offend but C'mpn, Finland doesn't have a food culture like that of Spain, Japan, China. That's all I'm saying. Australian food......there is no culture and I am ok with that.
Finland are great but food wise, it doesn't do it to me.
Isn't that ok to say?
Anyways what I'm saying is that all I want is to meet other who share a passion to other food.
The richness in food from Asia, Middle East or Southern Europe.
Most of the Finns I have met actually make fun of Finnish food as it THEY feel it's nothing compared to Asian countries.
However they also say that Finland never had those spices or herbs to develop flavours as i understand.
