steak restaurant in Hki?

Postby interleukin » Sat Jul 21, 2012 4:56 pm

I'm treating a meat-eater to a nice dinner to celebrate that he's survived being married to me for yet another year. Do you have any ideas for a steakhouse-type of restaurant in Helsinki that would be nice (anything that can be reached by public transportation)? Something better than the local kebab-place, but not something that will set us back a months salary. If you have tips for something else, not exactly of the steakhouse kind, that would also be appreciated.

thanks!

This place has really good food and has fine reviews all over. I would definitely recommend it.

I was about to recommend the place behind Ateneum, but you beat me to that and got the name too.

There is also Grill It! A steak house that is in the Radisson Blu just behind Kamppi. We've eaten there, the steaks were pretty good. And it's part of Sokos group so you can use your S-card. The US team was there during the Ice Hockey championships, if that is any kind of a recommendation!

The best place I have had steak around here is not in Helsinki but close enough in Espoo. It is Ravintola Grilli Toro on Louhentie. I usually judge food by the size of the portions, and here they give you loads.

I sure would give a lot of thought before going to Morrison's again.

I was there in July and found it matching the bad reviews on Eat.Fi

http://eat.fi/helsinki/morrisons-grill-and-green

I surely would agree that McD's 1/4 Pounder is tastier and a lot cheaper.

The restaurant inside is dingy and dark as well - and the chap telling about the greasy floors was right on!

++

Hadn't been to Sea Horse in 100 years - had a lunch there 2 weeks ago and can say it would be promising for a full dinner.

You mean they have raised their prices to cover the 'bonus' in case you use the card. That's the way they do it with the ABC gas stations and for much of their food from what i can determine. The 'bonus' system is a scam!

I must go there some day. It has almost iconic status in Espoo. It has been there for forty years (Pohjois Tapiola) http://www.grillitoro.fi/
And, at a push, it is walking distance to the The Gallow's Bird in http://www.gallowsbird.fi/english/index.htm (but quicker by bus)

I was there very often in 70's and 80's. Tried again a few years ago and then again last year. Really nothing special but they are not at all shy about pricing. The 'load' of food is pretty much a question of a mountain of cheap, frozen-ready french fries. Their "leike"'s probably set the record for thinness. Their tornedos tastes good but has a hefty price and the size nothing like it used to be.

I was told they've changed hands a number of times. The more recent 'best days' was when they had the Japanese cook.

I'm afraid they are still riding on an old pretty well earned reputation.

... in that case maybe I'll stay at home.

Not a good year for the elk hunt though. The quotas are way down on last year and the year before.
