Mushrooms!

Post by CH » Sun Aug 31, 2014 5:56 pm

Due to the dry summer and now lots and lots of rain mushrooms are coming up late. Went mushroom hunting today with my daughter, and found lots and lots of porcini and other boletus mushrooms. A couple of chanterelles, too, I'm hoping they will be coming up next!

Me too. We had mushroom risotto tonight using the ceps (boletus edulis) and some chanterelles we found on Saturday. There were a lot of boletus at the mökki and many of them were intact (I'm used to finding only half-eaten ceps). Not so many chanterelles though.

On our way to visit friends yesterday, we decided to stop along a country road and take a stroll to have a look at the forest floor. We FILLED our trunk with porcini. Spent the evening cleaning, slicing, frying and drying. A very good year!

No suppilos in southern Siuntio as of yesterday - maybe no wonder - still warm - and Suppilovahvero is Winter Mushroom in English.

Found TWO suppilos today in area where I usually find a few thousand each year.

And 2 Chanterelles in same area where maybe only find 100 in a year.

Can't make any conclusions about C's - but does seem suppilos are a bit late.
