Can I find soybean in supermarket?

Post by LeafAmulet » Wed Apr 08, 2015 3:05 pm

Hi~ this is my first post. (Sorry for my language //not so good < TT^TT>)
I'm going to go to Finland (Kajaani) and stay for about 7 month :D .
I really like drinking soy-milk and also not so good drinking cow milk so my family said I should take their soy-milk maker with me.
But I've heard that Finland is very cold  and the veggy could be hard to find :( ( I'm not sure about this < OwO>b )
so As the topic : Could I find soybean in market there?
and also Is there any cheep ingredients I can use to make meals ?
Thank~ :D

You can find soja milk, cream and yoghurts in all the supermarkets.

http://www.alpro.com/fi

We have Lidl here - a chain of supermarkets where you can find reasonably priced products and most of the bigger stores have good discounts on food which is close to its sell-by date. If you are studying, you should get a subsidised meal as a student.

i use soymilk myself.
some years ago, i lived in joensuu and outokumpu, that's north karelia, not so far from kajaani.
non-urban finland, far from the hip south.
you can get at least alpro products in most supermarkets, but there can be limitations, e.g. there's only one choice of soymilk and it's got sugar and calcium added. smaller shops might not have it at all.

in most markets, they also sell "texturized soy granulate" or wtf it is called (i usually call it "soy meat").

it's ok to get by vegan/non-dairy anywhere in finland, if you have a larger supermarket around.
are you going to live right in the town of kajaani? then there won't be any problems.

btw, there's also "YOSA", a sort of yoghurt made from oat milk. it's good.

if you are worried about prices, you have to tell us a little what you want to buy/cook, and where you're coming from.

"Soijajuoma" is the term they seem to use in Finnish packages for soymilk.

that's not a finnish thing.
it's law, at least in the EU, it cannot be called milk because it's not dairy.
