Education in Finland

Post by SD2911 » Wed Mar 25, 2015 10:09 pm

Hello, my name is Danitia. I'm a teacher in the Netherlands and i'm doing a master study beside my work. My study focus is language and reading. For internationalization I found education in Finland very interesting because of the good results. I'm looking for someone that is active in a Finnish school and who wants to help me to learn more about Finnish education. For example: With what age do children go to school? Wich grades are there? How does a schooldag looks like? Is it true that all teachers have a academic background?

I hope to hear from someone soon.......

Greetings,
Danitia

...and there are dozens of threads on this forum where other people have asked the same questions. The search engine is in the top right-hand corner of your screen.

Just to get you started: children start school at 7 (but most start school at 6 yrs with a reception year) and yes, all school teachers are supposed to have a Masters Degree in primary years education or, for secondary school, in their subject area plus relevant studies in pedagogy.
