Just Curious :D
This comes late, but I'm a Finn married to a Pinoy. What I know there's 2 couples in Tampere and one in Pori.

Hi Aylwin,
Yup na meet ko na iba pinoy dito during sundays dun sa helsinki. After mass kape kape muna kami sa tabi :D. Sa awa ng dyos ay nakasurvive din and infact my family were already here. I'm excited to see a real snow . Tanong nga ng tanong sa akin yung anak ko kung kelan daw magkakaroon ng snow para maglaro daw sya :D

this might be a dumb question but i'll ask it anyways

husband and i will be going to the philippines and palau for a month in january...

i got my course of vaccinations yesterday (hep A, havrix, tetanus) and the nurse suggested i talk to the doctor about malaria pills before we go.

now according to my mom and my tita..the places where we're going don't have malaria (around luzon, cebu, palawan) but the nurse yesterday was saying how she recommends me taking them "just in case." it's not like we're going to be roughing it out in the jungles...we'll be staying in populated places and resorts. but, according to the nurse, malaria season is jan-april.

i dunno, i read up on the course of malaria pills and it seems like a pain to take depending on which drugs they prescribe...and i heard that it's not advisable to get pregnant for a year after taking the course of pills. not that i plan on getting preggors but, you never know.

what do you guys reckon?

i just saw on a md travel website this:

Malaria in the Philippines: prophylaxis is recommended for all rural areas, except in the provinces of Aklan, Bilaran, Bohol, Camguin, Capiz, Catanduanes, Cebu, Guimaras, Iloilo, Leyte, Masbate, northern Samar, Sequijor, and metropolitan Manila. Subic Bay is a risk area.

whoa...no mention of palawan...
b0 selecta!

I grew up in the Philippines (Manila and Cebu) without many vaccinations. And I've never taken any anti-malaria pills before. In fact, I don't know anyone among my family and friends who have ever taken such pills. And I've even been "roughing it up" in Palawan.

The only Filipinos I know personally who have gotten malaria got it in Indonesia.

I'd say that more than 99% of all people (local or foreign) in the Philippines who never take these anti-malaria pills never contract malaria. Of course, that claim has no scientific basis whatsoever. :)

So I'm not saying that you shouldn't take the pills. There's no harm in being safe. It's just my personal opinion that you won't be taking a life-threatening risk by not taking those pills.

hello sa mga filipino dyan sa Finland.

Natanggap po ako sa isang company dyan sa helsinki at mag start by feb. next year.

Ask ko lng po about sa cost of living for a single person dyan. Nag research din ng konti pero ewan ko lng if correct to ang data na na gather ko. Mas maganda sana if first hand information talaga from kapwa pinoy.
- flat, internet, transpo, food = around 1000 euro ?
- taxes 25%+ ?

Salamat.

Hi jcy,
welcome sa finland

depende sa lifestyle mo..itong calculation na ito ay base sa aking experience kung mag isa ka lng..

Simple calculation for one individual expenses base from experience
Rent of studio type (50 square m ) = 600 (you can rent a room for 300)
Food = 20 per week x 4 = 80 say 100
Internet -------------------------------- 25
cable TV ------------------------------- 20
Bus ticket -------------------------- say 80
Telephone ------------------------- say 80
----------------------------------------------
905 Euro

Congratulations at welcome to Finland!

Medyo matagal na ako hindi single so hindi ako sure pero mukhang ok siguro ang 1000 EUR.

Sa tax, depende sa sweldo pero palagay ko at least 30%. I think you can calculate your tax somewhere on this website:
