Free democratic schools in Helsinki

Post by Dan3 » Sun Jan 15, 2017 4:58 pm

Hello everybody!
we are now considering the school for our 6 year old kid. Is anybody aware of free democratic schools in Helsinki like Sudbury Valley schools in the US or Freie Demokratische Schule in Germany?

By democratic I mean the schools where kids have significant say in the school governance. "Free" here stands for the absence of classes and fixed curriculum, so that the initiative on what to learn and do at any given moment comes entirely from the kids, not the adults.

All schools in Finland follow the National Core Curriculum. No exceptions. But pedagogical approaches can vary. You might want to look at Steiner schools. There aren't many in Finland and I've heard it can be difficult to rent/buy property in the vicinity since they are quite popular. There is one near where I live in Olari, Espoo. The school language will be Finnish.
