Homeschooling in Finland

Post by Auroras » Sat Oct 13, 2018 11:11 am

Is it easy to home educate in Finland? Are there communities and activities? Are there homeedders in Northern Finland?

Depends on what type of 'easiness' you mean. Homeschooling is legal so from that perspective it's somewhat 'easy'. There are some families that educate their children at home, but there is also a number of children that are listed homeschooled in the statistics but they are in fact attending a (usually small) school that's not officially recognised.

If by 'easiness' you mean community and support then, there's at least one association (in Finnish, https://www.suomenkotikouluyhdistys.fi/), but as homeschooling is somewhat unusual in Finland and the population density in general is low, it's possible that you cannot find another homeschooling family living close to you. I presume that families that do decide to homeschool in Finland often have religious or ideological reasons for it, so depending on your own family, it might be tricky to find a family that has similar values to yours (if that's important for you). Anyway, I'm sure someone from the Homeschool association can tell you more about the topic.
