Hi,
My wife will be entitled to apply for Finnish Citizenship by next spring.
Now at the same time we are thinking of moving away from Finland in a year or two.
I have read that Finnish Citizenship application takes more than a year (or even several years) to process, what would happen if the application was still in when we are moving away?
Would there still be a chance for the application to be approved (e.g. by claiming not to have moved away permanently, etc.)?
Would be great to hear about practical experiences in similar situations.

Moving away after applying for Citizenship
Hi,
Could it be that your friend was going through the process of 'Declaration of Citizenship' - does he e.g. have one Finnish parent?
Directorate of Immigration says the following about average times of processing:
http://www.uvi.fi/netcomm/content.asp?article=2588
Citizenship matters
Applications for Finnish citizenship
- clear cases 18 mths
- cases where clarifications are required 30 mths
Applications for release from Finnish citizenship 3 mths
Declarations for Finnish citizenship 1,7 mths

[quote="kallesi"]Hi,
Declarations for Finnish citizenship 1,7 mths

What does 1,7 mean? In English, commas are also used to separate items in lists. So reading this I think it means either 1 month or 7 months. But I'm guessing written this way means between 1 month and 7 months (in English, that would be written 1-7).
Just curious.

Applicants from 'western' countries tend to have shorter handling time?
How about Asian applicants?
Would it help to have a permanent job? Academic job? Well-known employer...?
"Clearer" the case, faster the handling time? What aspect could make it a "clearer" case?
(I believe it was 1.7 months for the declarations, but those I guess are VERY clear cases).
