Another thing to bring is a good barbecue sauce (I use Montgomery Inn's), as a change to the pre-sauced meat that seems to be so common in the stores in Finland.

if you bring coffee, make sure it is ground coffee.... somehow the air pressure from the flight makes the bag vacummed sealed tight like a brick. I bought starbucks whole bean on a flight to germany. it's truly amazing how rock solid the bag became... kinda weird looking too. I still wonder what the perfect gift is to bring too... umm, from my experience my ex did not like american chocolate at all. coffee they have there, but he did go crazy for the starbucks cafe verona one. maybe some good spicy spices.. or hot sauce that stuff is bland in Finland. maybe some good BBQ seasonings.

I think coffee is OK as a gift. I used to bring coffee up from France before I moved here and it seemed to be always welcome. But I think there is an upper limit on the amount you can bring into the EU (at least there used to be). Mug was also a good idea.
I am always happy to be given a book, music (CDs), maybe a T shirt, baseball cap etc booze. etc etc

David: Just for the clarification.
The choklit thing was called (in English) N!ggers Kiss. And cos of some kinda pressure they had to change the name.
IIRC, it was some MP or someone from the UK who stubbled upon it and deemed it offensive. I think the company was trying to find a bigger/European market.
Personally I think they should have just banned the whole damn thing cos it was vile...not the name, the sweet. We have somehting similiar in the UK but I cant remember the name. Like a round chocolate covered marshmellowy type thing with some strawberry filling. An offense to junk food.

Nope, they were called "Negro Kisses", thats what Finnish girls wanted
I think the MP should have been a bit less offended, now that
neekerinsuukko is gone theres only
neekerisankkeri left.

Was it?????? Oh ok....I thought it was 'n!ggers kiss'...Well, that's how people translated it to me.
Ok, fair call. So even less reason to change the name IMO.

The meanings and connotations of words – even cognates – are rarely 1:1 identical from one language and culture to the next, but you often see the Finnish word
neekeri likened to “negro” and the Finnish word
nekru likened to “nigger”.
