I'm referring to how Finns don't really know anything when it comes to helping a foreigner start up a life for themselves here. In Australia it's the most common of common knowledge to know how to start from scratch in Australia.

Then again, this is Europe and it's fact that life here in Europe on the other side of the planet is completely different to life in Australia. I suppose the same goes for everywhere but you get my point.

Really? I thought the basics have been gone over and over again on this board for example - except unfortunately there is no particularly good answer to question to "how to find a job without knowing the local language or having a suitable education". Details of what are needed to start your own business aren't typically known well by those that don't have one, but that is not really about Finns vs. foreigners.

I see your point, but why on earth would an average Finn need to know any such info? I for example have no idea on what the requirements to even get a visa to my homecountry are, whereas I´ve done a bunch of homework when I´ve been moving somewhere. For an average Finn with Finnish friends, this is a world they don´t know exist, and why would they need to?

Very fair question and I agree. The difference I am speaking of however is that in Australia the system is set up so everyone, no matter if they already possess these privileges through right of birth or inheritance from their parents etc. They will still ultimately know how to go about getting them from scratch all over again. By this I mean for instance how to apply for citizenship, how to apply for healthcare, how to integrate into Australia as well as receive benefits from the government. It's all so easily and conveniently listed out. This is also despite how racist we are and that we shut our doors whenever we can justify it.

Finland has almost 1/5th of the population Australia has, but my inital intepretation was that due to it being part of the EU and well.. because Finland isn't a TOTAL shut-in country, that at least Finns themselves would know the systems that are there for their benefit back-to-front. I was completely wrong. For all the right reasons. It was stupid of me to expect Finland to follow the same system that Australia does for such things. It's a totally different world over here. I completely respect the system in place here and the people's lack of knowledge (when it comes to starting from scratch) of how to start life regardless. However knowing how your system works (and thus how to start from scratch) is easier than using the system itself. At least for us Australians anyway.

Your average Australian wouldn't have to answer that question because it's second nature to want to know how such things work. We're so tight arsed about our own systems that if we don't know how it works we label it 'censorship' and a violation of freedom of information. Again, this is part of the reason why I was quite chuckled by the Finns "Who gives a hell why it works" motto

As for the board I have no idea how many of the regulars at least, here are actually Finnish. By this I mean a 5th generation Finn or whatever. It seems that the longer I stay on the board here the more I realise that just about everyone here is a foreigner like myself, living in Finland. Not a Finn themselves. So to me so far it looks like foreigners are doing most of the helping out here.

Have you already started to feel contractions that you are in so much urgency. Just make a call to clinic and they will tell you. Should be quite expensive, have no personal experience

Quite the bargain compared to the US or other countries... Without KELA chipping in the cost is something like 2-3000 euros.
