Finnish citizenship processing time 2011 onward

Postby morro » Tue May 29, 2012 5:16 pm

Terve,
From 2011 onward migri has two queues for processing of citizenship application i.e.:
- Precise and explicit applications
- other applications

Can you share your experience with the application process .....
- When you submitted your application at police station.
- When your received citizenship.
- Any other detail that you think is worth sharing.

Thanks.

I applied for citizenship in March 2012. Based on the new rules one can get the decision ranging from as less as 3 months to 18 months. In the meanwhile, how can i find if my application submitted was complete and clear vs having issues? I called the migri number and they said that i just have to wait without any other details. Has anyone who has applied for citizenship in 2012 already got the decision yet?

Hello!

I applied back in May 2011 I believe it was, and was approved just recently. They called a couple of times in between, to ask some questions and check up on whether I'd found work, etc. I wasn't in any rush, as I had the funds to sustain myself and my fiancé works, but it was a pleasant surprise when the decision turned up. :)

OC: Thanks for your reply. Since you applied last year it has taken time. I know a friend of mine who applied in October 2011 and got the decision already in April 2012.

I dont think there is any simple logic for processing time lengths. Even if the applications for citizenship are clear, people have got decisions within 3 months to 12 months. Also what is intriguing is that some people get calls asking about status of job etc, while others dont get them.

Just be thankful you applied after 2010, people who applied before that had to wait over a year but now they've improved the processing time significantly! I never understood the reason for the calls asking about the job situation given the fact that being unemployed is not grounds for refusal.

I applied in January 2012 and got my decision in June 2012. It took exactly 5 months for the processing of my application.

I have applied in December in 2011, and until July 2012 it was still at the police station . And as I know the time application processed at police is not considered as the processing time at the immigration office. And my citizenship application went to immigration office in August 2012, my residence permit will last until august 2013, surprisingly I got a call from immigration office for asking have I been abroad after I submitted my application " answer yes I was on holiday 6 weeks", and then they ask am I still working at the same place " answer no 5 months ago I left for own reason " and starting looking the new job. And today I got the letter from Immigration that I have gained Finnish Citizenship. Thanks God for making that really quick, more than what I expected , because it should be at least 6 months for immigration handling , in my case it is only 1 month after they got my application from police...just let you know I do not know exactly how long does it take to handle each case..

I have lived in Finland for over 10 years now before i applied for citizenship(just replying to previous post)

I applied for my citizenship in March 2012, had a reminder to call Migri after approx. 6 months. I called Migri today and they said that i have been put to the slower queue (unclear application) which stands at September 2010, so i have around 1 year to go before any news. I had made sure that all information is filled and that there is nothing missing(also confirmed by the person who checked and received my application at Police station). My application reached the Migri in April 2012(so only 1 week at Police station). I asked the lady today if there was something missing information due to which they have put to slower queue and they did not know. This is bull!

Are you on a national passport or an alien one? (if an alien one then to the unclear pile). How often have been outside Finland? (if very often then to the unclear pile). What is the source of your income? (if tax returns don't add up then to the unclear pile). Have you been convicted? (if yes then to the unclear pile). Do you have bad credit? (if yes then to the unclear pile).

Hi logic, regarding sentence : "How often have been outside Finland", could u explain more?
I mean its include the travelling for holiday or business?

And about bad credit, do u mean some one in black list ?

I have a national passport, married to a finn for the past 7 years, 2 kids together, have paid taxes all years i have been in Finland source of income is transparent so no discrepancies possible and i have been maximum per year 1 month outside Finland on holidays, plus few days worth of business trips, I have not been unemployed during these last 10 years. i have not been convicted but picked up speeding ticket(only one) in 2009 and i dont have bad credits, only home loan, so what would be the reason for putting my application to the unclear pile i dont get it. When submitting my application, the lady at the counter said that they will keep my application to check if i have paid my speeding ticket and they did that and sent it forward in 2 weeks. So this must be clear and sorted out. What else could be the reason for my situation?

A speeding ticket is still a reason to have the application in the unclear cases because they need to decide whether a waiting period needs to be imposed or not and while it was committed in 2009 it's up to migri to say that enough time has passed and the application is good to go.
