Kela and TE-toimisto

Postby SHS » Mon Jul 30, 2012 3:34 pm

Hello,

After moving to Finland in May 2011, I have just finished 6 months Finnish language course under the 'integration program'. From my job hunting experience, I understand its not easy to find a job in financial sector with my native degree. In the mean time I got admission in a two years masters program in Aalto University. However, the TE-Toimisto is saying that they wont support me for this program as the program is taught in ''English". Even they say I cannot appeal against this decision. But I know cases where TE-Toimisto is supporting students in similar programs. My työelämän course teacher also told me that I need to do some convincing to be supported for this program.

I am a bit confused about all this. Does it depend only on the co-coordinator from the TE-Toimisto? Is there any way around? Would a face to face meeting with my co-ordinator make any difference? I would appreciate any suggestions in this regard.

Regards

While you may disagree with TE, they do have a point. Even if you obtained a masters degree, what are the chances of being hired by a financial enterprise in Finland without knowing Finnish? Now if it was an IT degree then you can easily make the case that English is enough to work for an IT company and that a masters degree increases your chances of getting a job there.
