Hello
I have lived in Finland for two years now on "B" visa.
Now I am going to marry to a Finnish national. My question is that after marriage I will get "A" visa. will I get 4 years "A" visa or 1 year ?
A visa on basis of marriage
Re: A visa on basis of marriage
You'll get residence permit, not visa. Using proper terms helps finding the relevant information.Fin123 wrote:Hello

Visa is for visiting, Residence Permit for residing.

Sorry for using visa instead RPHonest wrote:One-year
I have already lived 2 years on B which is equivalent to 1 year of A RP
Even then you think that I will get one year A status RP
Re: A visa on basis of marriage
Yes, only one year.Fin123 wrote:Sorry for using visa instead RPHonest wrote:One-year

Re: A visa on basis of marriage
Oh, and this is incorrect. 2 B years count as 1 ONLY in matters related to the residence period requirement for the citizenship application.Fin123 wrote:I have already lived 2 years on B which is equivalent to 1 year of A RP
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.
Re: A visa on basis of marriage
It is not what someone thinks. It is what the law says. If you wanna know why such law is there, then I think it is to filter out con artists who engage in marriage of convinence in order to get into or stay in the country.Fin123 wrote:Sorry for using visa instead RPHonest wrote:One-year

So, in your case if everything goes fine, you will get one-year permit, after that 3-year permit, and then permanent RP.
