time to get a simple answer

Post by smirker » Tue May 17, 2005 1:29 pm

Hello All,

I've been reading these pages for about a year now, and I'm still no clearer on what i need to do when I arrive on the 7th June this year.

If anyone can help, here is the info I think you need to know.

1) UK citizen (and therefore EU)
2) Have a permanent home address in Finland in the Rauma/Turku area
(my fiance's)
3) looking for work on arrival.

Note: Please don't go on about number 3 - finding work is not going to be
a problem, as I have more friends and contacts in Finland that all
My fiance's friends and family put together.
I just need an action plan from point of arrival....I don't want to
be standing at the altar in a few years time only to be dragged off
back to England because I tick the wrong box when I arrived...

Cheers

I believe the right order is

1. Magistrate office. I went to the office in Tapiola, near the Stockmann. Input - Passport, work permit, Output - Social Security Number.
2. Kela Office - Input Social Security Number, plus ID Output - Kela Card (Health Insurance)
3. Vero Office - Input Social Security number - Output Tax Card (No tax card = 60% off your paycheck until fixed)
4. Optional - Police office for police ID

Lucky you, all these offices are in Tapiola

Welcome to Finland
ack, thhhttpo, snort !!!!

Right, but...

because #1 requires "work permit" (gotten from the embassy before arriving or police if applied locally), which an EU citizen does not need/have/want; the 1st step an EU citizen needs to do is to make the visit to #4, Police office, to make a residency declaration 1st. (for which they need the stuff stated at http://www.poliisi.fi/poliisi/home.nsf/ ... F4002E78D4 )

Lucky him, thats Espoo for jurisdiction. Rauma is also separate jurisdiction from Turku, or all the 3-4 counties in between. One has to go biblically "each to their own city".

So if you know where you are going to live at... like 01710 VANTAA - one needs to go to the Vantaa police and Vantaa magistrate - no use for going to Tapiola (people in this case usually still claim to "live in Helsinki" )
(However tax office and KELA you can go to any office, they're more flexible)
Theres a page at http://www.maistraatti.fi/maistraatti/m ... &laaniid=4 where you can figure out - unless you live "in town" where it is you actually supposed to go for your magistrate.
