I am moving to Finland in a few months because my husband was transferred there for work. I live in the US.
On a daily basis, I take the herb Kratom for anxiety and depression. According to the information I've found online, it's illegal to import Kratom to Finland.
However, I've also read that it's not banned but that it requires a doctor's prescription.
I don't know if this means that pharmacies dispense it or if a prescription entitles an individual to import it...
I certainly can have my doctor write a note on prescription paper, but I'm not sure that's what this means.
Can anyone tell me what they know, if anything, about getting Kratom in Finland, or bringing it into the country?
I have looked at the Finnish Medicines Act (see link below) but it doesn't make sense.
It says individuals can import medicinal products, but not medicinal substances. Yet at the start of the document I don't see any differentiation between these terms..

I am very worried about this. I should not have to break the law just to have my anxiety and depression kept at bay with an herb rather than a manufacture pharmaceutical.
Kratom
Re: Kratom
I've never heard of anyone using kratom in finland. I am from the states also and was into it, its very beneficial, but finland is super strict about these kind of things. go to the head shop and all you will find is pipes.

Re: Kratom
You should come up with an alternative to Kratom. You could book a time to a doctor here the day after you arrive, for example.sloegraffiti wrote:I am very worried about this. Re: Kratom
That might be difficult. Reading up on the stuff there is reason for the ban. Kratom has similar effects as opioids.betelgeuse wrote:You should come up with an alternative to Kratom. Not to mention that wanting herb and not pharmaceutical is questionable in terms of logic. Pharmaceutical products are superior to herbs in every way. Herbs are unreliable as they are not homogenous in content of chemicals. Dosages can vary quite a bit.
There are non-opioid antidepressants and anxiety medications.
But would OP want one...
