Hi all,
I have a question regarding residency permits/cards/registration for myself and my partner - a bit of background
I am a dual British/Australian citizen and my partner is a sole Australian citizenship - we are moving to Finland so I can study and I understand as I am an EU citizen (for now - until Brexit) I just have to register (Is this an easy process & pretty much guaranteed?)
For my partner is where it gets more complicated - we are same-sex and marriage is not legal in Australia so I don't have a marriage certificate. We have been together 6 years so I can prove our relationship but I am confused with the different names of residency. IE. I am looking on the infopankki website and it says family members of an EU citizen need to apply for a residence card - is this a difficult process and similar to a visa application or is it more like a registration process?
Thanks!

Re: Dual British/Australian Citizen moving to Finland
You apply for the right of residence in Finland as still EU citizen: http://www.migri.fi/registration
Your partner applies as EU family member: http://www.migri.fi/eu_registration/family_member
You will get registration paper right away from Migri office if you have the documents in order and your partner will get the residence card in max 6 months: http://www.migri.fi/processingtimes/ser ... card_71522
Both processes are much easier and cheaper than a regular residence permit.
Good luck!

And one more thing to consider, while your partner is waiting for the residence card to be made, can stay with you in Finland indefinitely as relative of EU citizen, but will not have identity number, nor be covered by Kela, so be prepare and have a travel insurance. In theory he can come as family member of EU citizen without travel insurance but if you need to go to doctor you will be paying everything. Also until the residence card is ready he cannot register as job seeker or to any permanent school.
