Opening a bank account with non-Finnish address?

Post by aramk » Sun May 13, 2018 11:16 pm

I'm curious if anyone has had success in opening a bank account in Finland without a Finnish permanent address, and if so, which bank you used.

I was born in Finland and have Finnish citizenship although currently live and work in California. My wife and I are looking at purchasing a home in Helsinki — partly as an investment, but also with the goal to move there in the not-so-far future — and I was hoping to open an account to make purchasing a home easier. I spoke on the phone with OP and Danske Bank and it sounds like it's not common (or perhaps possible) to use a foreign address.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Thanks!

I don't think that the address is as much problem as current money laundering laws and their demand to banks to know their customers.

Visa is for visiting, Residence Permit for residing.
