Getting prescriptions during residence permit wait

Post by undertakerfreak » Mon May 14, 2018 8:11 pm

I just learned today that I can stay in Finland while I wait for my RP application to be processed. The only thing that would keep me from going back to the US is the fact that I have prescriptions that need to be refilled, but I would really like to stay with my wife. She told me that I could see a doctor in the private sector, but does that necessarily mean I could get a prescription written for what I need? I know I’m not in the population registry for anything but my marriage, but could being married and having submitted an application have any bearing on my ability to get a prescription written?

Nah. Prescriptions are written for a reason and marriage isn't one. Doctors aren't supposed just to write new prescription, they should also see if drugs have worked, would there be better one available etc.

Tourist are also eligible for prescriptions. A private doctor can write you a prescription if deemed medically necessary.

A friend came to visit me a couple of years ago. Airline lost her luggage and she had to replace about 8 prescriptions. It was no problem for her as a tourist and the cost was even less than in her home country with insurance.

If it is a drug that is licensed for sale here, it is no problem. Depending on what it is you may want to check that, though: http://www.fimea.fi/web/en/databases_an ... s/fimeaweb
