How to track application progress (applied paper application)
Hello,
I applied my Residence Permit 3 weeks ago by submitting paper application.
I tried to check the status through EnterFinland but I couldn't check it since I applied by paper.
Is there any way to check the status of application progress?
Thanks

Nop. By calling is not recommended.

Calling is not recommended, because the person answering you could be dealing with applications instead.artistlsm321 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 10:56 amHello,
Thanks for your comment.
Can I know why calling is not recommended?
How about asking the status by email?
Thanks!

You submitted it 3 weeks ago. THREE weeks ago. It's really way too early to check on the status of the application. Just keep waiting and do other stuff. They'll contact you if there are any issues.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Yes, correct. You just annoy them if you call and ask, especially before the estimated processing time has passed. All the communication, like additional requests will be asked by post. Also decision will come by post.

Thanks for your comments.
In fact, I didn't say I will call them but email.(maybe equally annoy them anyway)
I should have applied it through online
My contract has already started and I am in charge of important role for the project.
Do you think if it's possible to start work if I applied RP as specialist?
Thanks,

If you're already legally in Finland, you can start working immediately after you apply for an RP as a specialist.

Looking at http://migri.fi/en/processing-times estimated processing time is 2 months on paper and 1 month online.

Two months for a decision? I'm not sure I believe thattavastia wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 5:31 pmLooking at http://migri.fi/en/processing-times estimated processing time is 2 months on paper and 1 month online.

Out of curiosity, why would you apply by paper? It's a very odd choice.

Thanks for your comments, Beep_Boop
I agree with you. it was really stupid choice that applied by paper.
I haven't checked carefully about application process.
By the way, you mentioned that I can start work immediately after applying residence permit as specialist if I stay in Finland legally.
Does it also include 'extended residence permit as specialist'? not first permit.
I read website carefully but couldn't find clear answer.
I graduated MA in Finland and legally stay in here as I am waiting for the RP process.
Thanks

Re: How to track application progress (applied paper application)
I applied on paper because I figured I'd have to go to the office to turn in documents anyway, so why not print it out at home (US), fill in what I can, and fill out the rest later when I get to my wife in Finland? It's not like being able to check the progress of my application online is going to make it go any faster.
Re: How to track application progress (applied paper application)
You shall be able to start working, I belive you had a student permit before and now you apply for specialist.
About the following online don't worry too much as there is not much to follow as it's mostly staying into "waiting for processing" state....only if they need some additional stuff will take longer as they will ask by post.

Re: How to track application progress (applied paper application)
That's precisely what it's like. Application fees are lower and processing time is shorter with online applications. Plus, you fill everything online so you go to the embassy/Migri just to show your other papers, so you decrease the time to spend there. Applying online is tangibly superior.undertakerfreak wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 12:09 amIt's not like being able to check the progress of my application online is going to make it go any faster.
