Citizenship

Post by rhcpjdc » Thu Aug 23, 2018 8:41 am

I am a cleaner and I just received a positive decision about my citizenship in just 4 months. And my friend who work in IT industry and is a model citizen and passed all necessary requirements and it has been 8 months and still no result? What are their basis on when or how long to approve it? obviously he earned so much more than me. And yes he never had trouble with law and he is paying his bills on time. Thanks

Every application is different cannot be compared.

Usually depends on who reviewed the application. Some migri employees are more zealous than others. Different applications go to different employees. Two applications of the same merits might wind up being decided at significantly different time frames.

Doesn't make it any less true.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Hello everyone,

I have some questions about the sufficient period of residence to apply for Finnish citizenship.

I first moved to Finland in 2014 with the resident permit type B (20.8.2014 - 20.8.2015), and then I married to a Finn in March 2015 and had the first resident permit type A family ties (10.8.2015 - 10.8.2016), after that I got the continuous resident permit type A (3.5.2016 - 10.8.2020). The questions are:

1. Is the period of residence counted base on the date on resident permit or base on the date when I registered at maistraatti? I noticed the different when I went to exchange my driving license to Finnish driving license and the officer told me that.
2. When is the earliest I can apply for citizenship? As far as I understand, I have already 3,5 years of residence:

20.8.2014 - 20.8.2015 = 0,5 year (1 year RP B = 0,5 year RP A)
20.8.2015 - 20.5.2016 = 1 year
20.8.2016 - 20.8.2017 = 1 year
20.8.2017 - 20.8.2018 = 1 year

I have read someone in this forum said that it is possible to apply 4-6 months earlier than the required period of residence, which means I can already apply for citizenship. Is that correct?

Thank you for ready and would appreciate any helpful answers.

1. They will look the Maistratti data, you can also check it yourself: https://verkkopalvelu.vrk.fi/omat/Etusivu.aspx
2. You can apply after 4 years as you are married with the a Finn. My personal suggestion is not to risk 350€ for few months. Also check your traveling habits as if you have longer absences from Finland may be taken away from your residence period.

Good luck!

Thanks for your answer. I finally applied about 2 weeks ago and keep praying every day now 😆 Btw, how long is considered “long absences from Finland”? I have made quite a few trips in the past 5 years but most of them are around 7-10 days, couple of 1-month trips in Europe and couple of almost-2-month trips in Asia. Would it be a problem? Wondering whether “married to a Finn” is strong enough to obscure those trips 😆 Just wanted to know tho I have applied already 😂

You want to say that it is generally not known when I will receive a response after submitting the documents?
