Laurea University of Applied Sciences

Postby Caffeine_PL » Sat Apr 14, 2012 11:05 pm

Hello,
I'm going to visit Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Vantaa. It's a staff visit from Erasmus programme. Does anybody know any quite cheep hostel close to LUAS? I'll be in Finland just few days. I'd like to ask also about getting from the main airport in Helsinki to this university.
I'll be thankfull for any information which could help me to plan visit in August.

Thanks! :)

So the one in Vantaa - you sure?

Ok, Tikkurila is a local bus from the Airport (if you look at the map airport is between the road 45 and Tikkurila)
the poly is more or less close to the train station there. There is a hostel a little way off http://www.urheilupuisto.com/english

I think it's Kerava not Vanta
So do you recommend Tikkurilan hotel, don't you?
Is it the closest hotel to Laurea University of Applied Sciences?
And did you hear anything about Sokos Hotel?

Thank you for help! :)

I'm not sure what your answer meant, but if the school you're visiting is in Kerava, I would suggest a hotel in Kerava. If it's in Vantaa (Tikkurila), I would suggest a hotel in Vantaa. Let's not make this more complicated!

So why do you then ask about Vantaa? look at those dots on the map - every one of those has a building with "Laurea Polytechnic" written on it.

Well it is the closest "cheap hostel" as you asked - and it is the closest one for the one building that is in Vantaa. Of course it is not close to any of the other campuses.

And did you hear anything about Sokos Hotel?

Well, I used to work there as a night manager actually.... and yes, from there you can throw something and hit the wall of that one building. But that is not exactly cheap...

Well...I thought we will be in Vantaa but I've received information that we will visit Kerava.

Sokos is expensive but unfortunatelly Tikkurila Hotel is fully booked  so I don't know what to do :(

OK, if you are in Vantaa, then Kerava is just "up the track" with a train. No worries. You can always try cancellations from that other place, but its very small. Sokos hotel is a bit on the expensive side. Theres not really anything "cheap" in the area, so your best bet is now try to organise something with the school - someones couch or spare room. Theres a bunch of airport hotels, but its the thing of "getting around". Then on the other hand, if you look at Helsinki Centre hostels, there is a fast train (and a lot of slow trains) to Tikkurila, as its a hub. So commuting isn't a problem - except the train ticket price...

I'll be a student at Laure Leppävaara from september in business-IT program. (full time degree student.) Is here anyone else who was also admitted to this program? it would be fun to get to know some people before starting the school. :)

Hello again ;)
Does anybody know which hostel / hotel is the closest to Laurea University of Applied Sciences?
Here is the address to this university:
Laurea Kerava
Keskikatu 3 a
04200 Kerava

I have difficulties to find anythig suitable for me and my 3 colleagues :(

I've made reservation through the phone in Cosmopoli Hostel (because nobody replied to my emails!) and they promised me to send booking number. Today my friend wrote them message with reminder about our booking and they replied that they don't have any rooms for us! This is ridiculous! What is more, my friend corresponded with some foreigner (probably from India) who has been working in this hotel and this person had very pure English. This is really sad...

I have no idea where we will sleep :? Maybe on the railway station  :x
