Chelski..Who will replace Ranieri and where will he go?

Post by PeterF » Thu May 06, 2004 9:55 am

They lead 2-0 and let it slip away..now it is Monaco V Porto.

Claudio Ranieri has not picked up any silver..so he has to go..brutal Russian philosophy.
But will he find it easier to find a new job than Chelsea will find any manager with equal or better capabilites?

Chelsea would be crazy to get rid of Ranieri, he's done a good job there. His team has hastily been assembled and not really had enough experience playing together IMO. Still he got them to EC semi final and 2nd in the league. They've not won the league for 49 years. They could win it next year :!:

Its a bit much to expect a team to win the Champions league when they've not been champions since 1955

Good enough for most clubs - but not for Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich. Abramovich wants to see more flair for his money!

It took Ferguson 7 years to win the league with United. Replacing Ranieri will take Chelsea back a year or two I reckon. Abramovich claims he's there for the long haul. I reckon he's after a passport to avoid the Oligarch witch hunt back home.

The Mirror says that

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews/tm ... _page.html

Defeat was a bitter ending to Ranieri’s four-year reign. He faces the sack at the end of the season after this semi-final exit.

His likely replacement Jose Mourinho, who 24 hours earlier led Porto to the May 26 Champions League Final, watched the match from the stand.

After the game he was understood to have had talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Read Mourinho's profile.

I hope Chelsea has a f*cked up next season, winning nothing again.
Just to teach Mister Abramovitch that money is not everything in football as he saw last night.
And I heard he is right after Al Fayed in the line to get a british passport :)
Here in Finland, I have done everything I can to blend-in with the Finns, I've changed my hair color, wore differnet clothes, got different

I think it is a disgrace the way Chelski are treating Ranieri.

He is a decent man and always gracious in defeat.

Like others have said Roman would be mad to get rid of him but hey what do we know.

Mind you he did f¤ck up in the first leg with his tinkering. At least I got to bed earlier than I thought last night

I watched the game until the last minute and I enjoyed it.
Now I just hope that they will win vs. Porto :)
Deschamps deserves to win with that fresh and eager young team.

I didn't say I didn't enjoy it. It was great to see Chelsea get knocked out  . I just couldn't be bothered watching the rest of an obvious final result! Its my prerogative thesedays as an armchair supporter ;-)

Todays UK press says Mourinho has almost got the job ..he says that he wants it...but it could be that Ranieri may be given another year..He has asked for more time and Abromovich tells him "not to worry next year will be better!"

I too fear that Mourinho will get it :ohno: Chelsea will then play like a rel team, not just a group of great individuals and we will loose our Ace, back to the old days when we did not know who the campion will be beforehand :P
at least I hope he can get us the cup next 26th, I would not believe we'd be there had anyone told me a few months ago..
