We just bought some new ice skates for the children, so should get them sharpened.
Now, I know that you can get them done in cobbler's shops and at the ice rink, but our Taloyhtiö has a workshop with a grinding machine, so I was wondering if I can do it myself.
any tips?

Sharpening ice skates
Re: Sharpening ice skates
If I were you I would let the pro's do it and especially the ones that are in the ice rinks...you might probably just mess the blade yourself it's not easy.

Do you need to sharpen new skates?
Re: Sharpening ice skates
Dunno how things have changed in 20 odd years since I got new skates, but at least then the new skates seemed to be sharp, but...simon wrote:Do you need to sharpen new skates?

Re: Sharpening ice skates
Knowing absolutely nothing about skates I was surprised when I bought some a week ago and was told they had to be sharpened before use. I would have expected new skates to be ready to use, but perhaps different customers want them sharpened in different ways or something. The initial sharpening was included in the price, and was done at the shop. Perhaps they would also re-sharpen skates, but I didn't think to ask. How often do skates need to be re-sharpened?
