Triathlons

Post by scoobymcdoo » Thu Jun 24, 2004 9:59 pm

What is the triathlon scene like in Finland (particularly in the south) like? We will be moving in October and want to continue training and racing.. Are there many active clubs about? I have looked at the Finnish Triathlon site but it is in Finnish!
Many thanks

Hi,

I was in a triathlon group in Lappeenranta (when I was living there 2 years ago), through people I met at a masters swimming group. In the summer there are a few triathlons of different distances - I did a sprint tri in Kuopio. It was great, and a fun way to meet people and get fit. Marathon running is big here too.

The main events calendar and club listings are here http://www.triathlon.fi/ with not much in English, but it should be easy enough to find your city's club and a contact name and number.

So it's definitely an alive and well scene - even in smaller cities, and you are more than likely to meet people during your own training. I'd get settled and ask at your local swimming pool counter for information about who trains locally, and then go from there.

That'll turn a triathlon into a quadrathlon! Swim, bike, kayak, run.
