American Pool

Post by FrankVDS » Thu Nov 18, 2004 6:38 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know of games of american pool (8-ball, 9-ball, straight pool), preferably a competition with official rules?

If not, what are the best (i.e. relaxed athmosphere, easy contact with other players, quality table) places to play pool in Helsinki?

I just moved to Helsinki and have no clue...

Tks
Frank

http://www.suomenbiljardiliitto.f

Any pub that has "biljardi" In the centre go to "Chaplin", "Corona" or "Saunabar" for example - Some local pubs in the burbs have free tables, but its usually either per game or per hour charges.

They have competitions, but its usually local gangs that then have their own tournaments where you move up to lists to compete in tournaments. Most usual in Finland is 8 and 9 - the rules tend to be you decide if its "house rules" or "military rules" (usually only 8 is painted ) or then the official "association rules". Usually tables are a bit dinky and cues are hard to find (make that cheap cues, theres specialist shops but you need to know). Snooker tables do exist, but are rare and they play a remnant of Russian times a variant called 'kaisa' as well.

I used to be half decent after the army, but I've really not that much time. My nephew is a 9-ball shark though.
