Is it possible to get my old name mentioned in my passport?

Post by albacore » Sun Jul 15, 2018 9:30 am

Hello,

I'm planning to change my first and last name only in Finland. So I'll have a Finnish passport that will be with different names from my other passport.

Is it paossible to ask Finnish police to mention my birth name somewhere on the Finnish passporr?

Example:

Birth name: Sara Alex Smith
New name in Finnish population register: " Rosa Sara Parks"

Can my Finnish passport be issued under Rosa Sara Parks, but also mention that I was known as Sara Alex Smith?

It is possible to ask, but the answer will be no. Format of a passport is quite well standardized.

When you change your name in Finland, you also have to change your name on you RP. Your RP must match your passport so you can’t change your name in just one country selectively.

I've read in other places (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=97066)
that this is not true. You can change your name even before citizenship.
