or http://www.canal.fi - for a dish setup.

If the house has cable, then cable. HTV IIRC has cartoon network on their digital packages.

If no cable, then you need to get a satellite dish.

If you're brave, get the satellite dish and try out this product:

http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/Berei ... DM7000.php

Should be able to decode lots of sat channels without subscription :)
I dunno if it works for Canal Plus FI though, but if it does, it pays for
itself in a year or so!

Does anyone know someone using one of these in Finland?

Yes, I know and the answer is quite simple. It is solely for hobbyists, for electronic guys. Not for normal people who would like to look at cartoon networks. The dream-multimedia products should be able to decode.... but isn't able. The conditions are a whole bunch of cables between your computer and the receiver and some knowledge of computer programming, besides it doesn't decode conax and viaaccess2. That's way to much for most people.

For most people: if you like to enjoy cartoon network, you pay for it. Fair play.

A subscription on canaldigital or viasat will do it.

Sorry to be a bore, but if you live in West End you probably have some nice outdoor space nearby, perhaps even your own garden. Get the kids some of those nice warm jumpsuit type things and let them play outside.

Kids dont "need" cartoon network and especially not in English. Are you living here for long? If so the kids need to learn Finnish and what better way than to watch cartoons in Finnish!

;-)

Tony

P.S. I am sure you can tell I dont have a TV and dont plan on getting one!

Hi Tony,

Good comments. Yes we are in Finland for a 2 year contract till Feb 2005.

And yes we have a garden - that was the reason for the move. They can play outside.

But kids cannot play outside all the time - that was the reason for the TV and cartoon network

The cheaper option will be the cable if it extends to your area. I'm not sure about this but it extends quite far in that direction, at least to Olari. A quick easy way to check is to see what channels you now get. If you get SUBtv, MTV, DWtv, Finnish Eurosport, Urheilukanava, then you are in the cable network. The SAT channels offered by HTV really leave alot to be desired for the price (you'll also hav to pay extra to have the dish installed), but you could get by with those as well. Can even get 4 different Discovery Channels. Damn I miss my dish...
