Ordering a mobile phone card

Post by neixir » Thu Nov 27, 2003 1:41 pm

Just a couple of questions for now...
Is it possible to order one of those pre-paid mobile phone cards to be sent to Europe?
Which company do you recommend anyway?
I'll go to Finland next year and would like to know the number before I'm there.

For prepaid maybe someone you know here could go into a shop and buy you a prepaid phone/card and send it to you. I dont think you would be able to order it to overseas.

You mean you have to register it with your name and address when you buy it?
I bought a simcard in the UK without registering. Maybe it depends on the company?

I could ask someone there to buy it for me before I go, but I don't know anyone yet.

No, Illnana was thinking of a proper account. For prepay, somebody just has to buy you the card and send it to you. Cost is as little as €17, with IIRC €10 of calls.

There is no need to register your name or address. It is just like the UK.

There are firms that will send you a card out, but you have to pay in advance and with a credit card. They also charge a commission. The firms are not the phone operators, they are resellers and they can sell cards for many countries. DO a Google search for one in the UK.

For all the hassle, just buy one at the airport when you arrive, unless you have a friend over here.

And I choose a prepaid simcard
The simpler the better.
I checked the keltaiset sivut but didn't find any online shop that sells cards (here).
I'll try google, or I'll need someone to get it for me.

I found a US site that sells sim cards internationally, they have them for many countries, but not Finalnd, although you could always email them, this is the site:

However, judging by the prices they charge, I would wait anyway. They are charging $69 for a Spanish card with just $20 credit in it.

Whats the trouble here?

Just get someone to buy you a prepaid card, and get them to post it to you.

You get your sim card and number in advance, and you can just top it up when it runs out when you are here.

When I was in the UK I bought a sim at the airport, and used it for the time I was there. I still have it, and as long as I use it once ever 6 months, it's still active.

If you really NEED it before you come, get someone here to buy one for you.

If you don't know anyone here, PM me, and I'll help you get one

Cheers
Gavin
