Saunalahti Voip

Post by Mikie » Tue Dec 01, 2009 4:17 pm

Man I seem to posting a bunch of questions this week.

I was looking online and saw that Saunalahti has a Voip service that has free calls to any Saunalahti mobile phone. It also allows for free forwarding to Saunalahti phones. As I and my sig. other have Saunalahti, this intrigued me. Whenever I call via Skype from outside the county, I have to pay $0.20/minute to call a mobile phone. If I were to call the included Voip number and have it forwarded for free to our mobile phones, it would only cost $0.02/minute. Significant savings. The service is apparently free as you only pay for calls outside the Saunalahti network.

Has anybody used this? Any experiences with this? I plan on getting this when I return to Finland in a couple of weeks to try it out. I'll post my experiences here. But $0.18/minute saving on calls for me is a big savings. I am out of the country a lot and call home regularly.

I am using that Nettipuhelin service since a couple of years.
Phone quality is definitely ok (for a voice communication)
and I like to have a dial-in number for free, and without monthly payments.

My family calls me from abroad to that number (09-) with no problem whatsoever.
When calling, I have a VoIP phone with a customized dial plan so that if the
call is inside Finland, it uses Nettipuhelin, if it calls abroad, it uses one of the
cheap european VoIP carriers.

Excellent Maxxfi, thanks. Basically the same as I plan on using it for. Will give it a go in a few weeks.

Is Saunalahti/Elisa currently blocking VoIP? I have "Internet only" SIM card from Elisa/Saunalahti. Recently I tried to use it with my VoIP client/app. None of the calls went through (I tried a few different numbers). Then I got connected to a local WiFi instead (was staying in a cottage near Tampere) and all the sudden all the same calls went through.

Did anybody else have the same problem with Elisa/Saunalahti? If so, is there any way around it? I have Huawei 5372 mobile wifi 4G router.

Update: Viber call went through. So, apparently, not all but some VoIP clients do not work/are blocked on Saunalahti/Elisa.
