I dont know the reason.
I seen one case like that before, nothing will be happening until around 8-9 months from the application date.

I have applied on 24.02.2016 and it is still in "waiting for process"- first stage.

You may try to contact them and ask if everything is fine with your application as it has already passed the estimated 9 months time... You can at least ask in what queue you are...normal queue or slow one. I heard stories that they even said not to call, but If you ask nicely, in Finnish only, they will tell. I called before when I had something to ask both of the numbers, general and citizenship line and I had no issues with any of them.

So, is it absolutely necessary to ask in Finnish? I have submitted one document which is written in English...does that make any difference? Thanks in advance for replying.

You can always try, but that was just a suggestion. I only used Finnish when calling about citizenship, and I had no problem, friendly answers and also helped with some issue later. Some people who called and talk in English got no service...
Documents can be submitted into English also, but your language requirement will the same.

I applied for Residency back in February and got rejected yesterday. So it was a long wait for a !"#¤% answer!

It doesn't mean I'll leave though :)
