It looks that they have a huge backlog. I hope they clear them fast. Keep us updated.

Thanks for this useful thread and progress updates guys.

I am working at Aalto University as a researcher and am currently filling up my online Citizenship application. I have a few questions regarding the application form:

1. Do I have to list ALL my holidays outside Finland during the past four years? Even the weekend beer-buying trips to Tallinn or overnight ferry trips to Sweden? (I am afraid I have so many of them in such case :( )

2. In the attachment section, apart from copy of passport, copy of language proficiency (YKI certificate), supporting documents of income (contract/ payslips / bank statements) what else did you attach? There are many more and I have no clue what they are? Do you have to proof your residence period somehow? If so what kind of document did you use?

I would greatly appreciate if you could give me some advice on this!

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Yes.

You don't need to put any proof or residence, information recorded at VRK and foreigners register will be used. You can check your data also: http://vrk.fi/en/check-your-registered-data-

No, I have not listed them (and got a successful decision). Generally speaking, they care more about long trips, small trips do not count at all, but if there is a corresponding stamp in your passport you better mention them.

I received Finnish citizenship on 17.03.2017. The process took over 13 months due to 1) the huge influx of refugees, 2) the transfer from police to migri for processing of all applications, and 3) the exodus of staff from migri (very likely due to differences in personal opinion vs government policy).

Date of application: 04.02.2016
Date when application processing began: 30.12.2016
Date of request for additional information: 30.12.2016
Date when I replied to request for additional information: 11.01.2017
Date when I received citizenship decision: 17.03.2017 (Friday)

I made a passport application online last Sunday evening, went to the police station on Monday afternoon to give fingerprints and surrender all of my old ID cards. My new passport was delivered to the neighborhood R-Kioski in less than 48 hours from my police station visit, even though they said it would take 7-8 days. No, I did not pay the express processing fee, either.

Thanks. That was just the timeline for my own case. Other cases may go faster or slower.
