Berner

What are the thoughts on Berner's "ideas" - ?

One thing I noticed is there doesn't seem to be any input to her from auto-owner interest goups - Autoliitto, etc.

Also - on the surface it seems to be a very non-progressive package,

that she suddenly comes up with a 100m euro subsidy for those who buy new cars show's how little thought has gone into the plan - if you can call it a plan. is the whole thing something she thought up on the way to work one day? you only have to compare the streets of oslo (which are full of electric cars like no other city I've seen) with helsinki to see that no thought goes into the use of private cars in Finland. Electric cars aren't new, sensible ones have been around for several years and yet the finnish tax system hardly recognizes them.

a fee based on km driven per year ? wouldn't that charge those driving 5km through the centre of helsinki less than those doing 50km in lapland where there are no trains and no traffic congestion and less worry about the emissions causing health troubles for the residents? stockholm, singapore, oslo, london.. they all have road pricing to some degree or other so perhaps she should look at what other countries have done.

"those driving 5km through the centre of Helsinki less than those doing 50km in Lapland "

Indeed! One facet - and extremely significant one - that is loonie. And that phrase touches the extremes - but the road use of southern rural and semi-rural areas of the southern half of Finland is completely different than 'keskusta' driving.

Berner must have been injected with some Drumpf DNA which seems to be related to raging cockamania

It doesn't seem fair on larger families either. Anyone with 3+ kids probably needs a slightly bigger car.
It will also make people think twice before driving out to the mökki at weekends/holidays which will have a trickle-down effect on businesses in rural areas.

A huge amount of government revenue is already generated by car owners of which only a small fraction is spent on maintaining the roads...

I'm with you on the other points, but not on this one.

If you're going to have a larger family, you'll naturally incur more costs. There's no validity in suggesting it's unfair on people with larger families that a larger car would incur larger taxes.

The same could be said for fat people.

Let's hope it is dropped

But Berner - along with Drumpf's DNA - might have picked up some of De Niro's (Cape Fear).

We might need a silver dagger or bullet.

"Government plans to set up a multi-party parliamentary working group to look at ways to bring down borrowing for road infrastructure maintenance, reports news consortium Lännen Media. The committee will be led by Transport Minister Anne Berner, whose controversial proposal for reforming the road transport system was torpedoed by government and opposition parties."

The Fox is running the hen house. What a bad joke!
