If you have something to back that up, please share. Otherwise I say that at most that creates some obligations, if you maintain those records systematically. I doubt also it makes any difference from that point of view if they openly state they are recording the calls or not.

But you did watch it from an illegal site. You said it in your first post. You said you regularly use Popcorn Time.
Every case is unique. You can't measure the result of your application based on arbitrary anecdotes online.

Just curious - where are these 'money-seekers' getting their info as to supposed 'guilty' parties? Wouldn't ISPs having to be going beyond the call of duty supplying info? Surely the police cannot be demanding ISPs co-operate - on a mere suspicion that someone has watched Casablanca on their computer without paying.

There are companies that specialize in providing this service.
Usually they monitor the IPs of people who download certain copyrighted material.

They then submit them to the ISP, probably with a warrant to connect the IP to an identity.
This process however, can introduce mistakes too.

Anyway if you must pirate things, use VPN or I2P, or both.
A good VPN costs 5 euros/month,though.
If you share a netflix premium subscription with 4 friends for 12 euros/month it costs 3 per person and you can enjoy content legally,
so that's even cheaper and doesn't require any technological aptitude.

Just so you understand, Popcorn Time is illegal, it's pirating content.
That's a 600e lesson for you.

Whether to pay or not, you're asking people to make a gamble for you?
What kind of answers do you expect?

From your messages it appears you are not technologically or legally savvy (as you have just admitted in an open forum you have committed the act they accuse you of),
so I doubt you'll want to take the gamble.
I say pay the fine and avoid using popcorn time, or learn how to do it safely.

You can check what you have downloaded recently, assuming that you are on static IP which is usually the case these days with your broadband connection

http://www.iknowwhatyoudownload.com/

If you can see the list then you can pretty much assume that the copyright trolls have your info too.

Even you didn't do it now or in past one month, you did it for a long time and they have been collecting info on you for maximum payout before moving their move.
And since you have already admitted to HP by calling them, they got you by your cojones.

The detailed answer to your question is in one of the posts in this thread. Can't remember which post it was.
HP hire some german company (which allegedly have skeletons of their own). Once they have IP addresses of suspects and when they did what then they contact Market court to "ask" ISP to give the street address of the clients.
Once street address is given then print the letter, lick it which costs about 500€.

To OP: Just noticed that one guy in that thread (post #24340, 30 min ago) also got the letter albeit different circumstances. See what replies and response he is going to get. There might be some helpful advice though I highly doubt it since you already confessed.
This is the basic thing that even TV shows tell you. Never confess anything to the lawyer of the accuser under any circumstances unless you really hate your life and your bank account.

Lawyers paying for some other company to get some IPs? I don't think so, they might end up without money. Afaik there is a company that collects the evidence and IPs. Then people behind that company have started other companies that bought licenses for the content they found to be pirated. Then that company hired lawyers to handle all the footwork here in Finland.

It seems some well-thought legislation needs to be written - and conpanies auch as Youtube(Google) are putting unattended candy on the shelf need to understand they are trying to work both sides of the street (nothing new).

Nordea hasn't explicitly told me if they are going to share their recorded information with anybody and I haven't seen them sued. Seems definitely less than obvious that keeping (only) evidence of those people that have called you and confessed their criminal activity would be considered a register in the legal sense. I am not able to read the legal text in fashion that would ban recording the phone call but allow at least making some form of notes of it afterwards. If the latter is banned too, then the recipient couldn't really react to the call in in any sensible individual level whatsoever.

It's not the lawyers who are paying, it's organizations like the RIAA or MPAA, or their local equivalent.
