Just moved and healthcare can't find me by number

Post by Ccharlotte » Wed Sep 27, 2017 10:36 pm

Hey,

I had to call for psychological healthcare. I just moved 1 week ago to Espoo and the woman on the phone was pretty rude and told me she can't find me in the system and that I have to "get your errr errr err papers transferred", WHATEVER that may mean. Professionals don't really actually speak English very well in Finland, sadly, so after two phonecalls that was all I could get from her. She said she cannot make an appointment and she gave me an emergency number in case of.. god knows why, apparently she thought I could maybe try and kill myself but that's still not enough reason to make an appointment for me. I have never before been refused healthcare based on bureaucracy before and I am so baffled I just do not know what to do.

We registered our new address at the maestraatti/postti website about one week ago, so what on earth is she talking about? Hospital also couldn't find my info but they said it was NP, just come by and we'll register you manually and make an appointment there. Any ideas what I should do?

It's likely that Espoo runs updates in batch which means there can be a delay after changing address and before showing up as a healthcare customer. I would go to https://verkkopalvelu.vrk.fi/Omat/Etusivu.aspx and check that the population register has been properly updated. Other than that I would visit on site to get the time if you don't want to wait for your info to show up.

Or it might be that the computer says she lives there, but there is no clinical history available as that info is buried in another computer in some Nowheremäki. Normal roadmap is to go through general practitioner?

Clinical history does not move directly between municipalities (unless they would happen to share IT systems). Now with Kanta there is at least the possibility for the new municipality to get access to the records digitally.
