Shipping gift baskets to Finland

Post by stevenk2 » Wed Nov 29, 2017 2:14 am

My daughter is an exchange student in Finland this school year, and I would like to send her host family there in Finland a (food) gift basket from the U.S. for Christmas. The one I'm thinking of sending is from Costco, and includes fruit, candy, smoked salmon, crackers and cheese. Shipping times seem to be within reason, so I don't think it will be an issue getting the food there while it's still fresh, but I'm unsure if sending such a package internationally to Finland presents any unusual challenges that I should be aware of? I am aware of the costs involved with shipping internationally, I just don't want to run afoul of any rules or import laws in Finland. Any advice from anyone on this?

Thank you!!

Food imports are also heavily restricted. The fruit, meat, and cheese are definitely not allowed. Crackers, cookies, sweets are ok though. See this link for more information tulli.fi/en/private-persons/receiving-gifts/foodstuffs-in-gift-consignments
