Moving out before the first possible starting date of the notice period

Post by farfaraway » Sat Dec 16, 2017 12:43 am

Hi,

My current rental contract states that the first possible starting date of the notice period is 31.10.2018. But my circumstances have changed and I want to move out before that, preferably on 01.02.2018

Not sure if it's possible to do so?

Hi!
Yes, you can move out, BUT you're still responsible to pay the rent to the landlord until your contract ends after notice.

However, you might have some alternative solutions to this...

1) Tell your landlord about your situation, and ask him/her if the contract period still would be negotiable.

2) Get a (secondary) tenant to rent the apartment from you until the end of the rental period. It's still your contract and you're responsible to pay the rent to the landlord until the end of the rental period. - Ask your landlord if he allows renting to a secondary tenant.

3) If you have a good tenant candidate, you might also suggest if the landlord would be willing to cut your contract, and start renting to the new tenant.

The time frame is meant to avoid the hassle for the landlord to find a new tenants too often.

Hope this helps to clarify the situation.
