Hi all,
Car shopping, notice that there are a greater availability of diesel cars, even though the CO2 levels are lower. Is there something that I do not know/ am missing out? And will they continue with the käyttövoima vero? Avoid buying?
Diesel cars, what's up with it?
Re: Diesel cars, what's up with it?
Used cars? Over 50% of imported used cars are Diesels. 2008 was peak year and about 50% of cars sold were diesels.
New? The 1500+€ scrapping bonus is for cars with <110 CO2 emissions.

Re: Diesel cars, what's up with it?
Hi Upphew,
Yes, used cars. For some reason, I am not intending to pay idiotic costs to the state by buying a new one.
But anyways. I don't mean from outside Finland, I see that Diesel cars are more available than Petrol. But comparing prices on mobile.de and also Finnish sites, there does not seem to be a big difference, E.g.
A BMW 3 series with all similar features and accessories, 2015 would be about 30K in Finland.
Same car, from Germany, I might get a one year newer model for 30K, but with the import costs could be another 8K. = 38K
Again, am I not checking this correctly?
BTW, is there a place I could check the potential costs of importing a car?

Re: Diesel cars, what's up with it?
if you search this board there are some explanations about importing including one that I wrote a few years ago.
The tax/emissions are not the only reason for buying a diesel. you have to fill it up less often and a 2 litre diesel accelerates much faster than the same car with 2 litre petrol engine.
If you look at mobile.de then approx 5000 used BMW 5 series from 2015 onwards are for sale. 4200 of them are diesel, 800 are petrol.

Hi riku2,
thanks, I'll try to find the post.

okay, that is exactly what I was asking: how come so many diesel cars out in the market, almost being dumped (???), is there yet some kind of higher taxes/ robbery or something coming along? If you look at mobile.de then approx 5000 used BMW 5 series from 2015 onwards are for sale. 4200 of them are diesel, 800 are petrol.
Re: Diesel cars, what's up with it?
well it reflects how many are sold in the first place. if you go to Germany most of the BMW's and Mercedes on the road are diesel. having owned a bmw 320 (2litre petrol) and 520d (2 litre diesel) I would never choose a petrol engine again. The 520d was much faster than the 320 and much better economy despite being a much bigger car.
Re: Diesel cars, what's up with it?
In finland there is the dieselvero which can be quite high for larger cars, in other countries there is no such so will not matter how.much you drive per year. Diesel cars have generally also the yearly maintenance higher and also some parts besides timing belt which is guaranteed like 100-150k. Dpf filter is 2-3k € to replace if is getting stuck.
