Have you tried living abroad during winter?

Where to buy? Where can I find? How do I? Getting started.

Have you tried living abroad during winter?

Post by albacore » Tue Jun 05, 2018 12:15 am

I've been living in Finland for 6 years and only recently the winters are getting really hard on me.

Anyone has tried living abroad, somewhere warmer during winters?

What months? And where did you go?

Any experiences about practicalities and the effects would be appreciated.

Haven't done it myself, but southern Europe, or even Canary Islands might be an option. That's where some of the pensioners go, anyway :) As it's EU, it's pretty straightforward. Of course the major question is whether you intend to work where you're going, or even indeed keep your current job. If there's nothing actually keeping you in Finland, and you feel miserable half of the year, might be worthwhile to consider moving altogether.

Thanks. I haven't been there, I should look it up.
I can work remotely for a month or so each year, plus one month of holidays means I can skip 2 months.

It's not like I'm miserable the whole winter, but I think it could be better. Also I like Finland and Helsinki as a neat and peaceful country. I haven't yet found any other place were I'd feel better living in. It's better to have a single problem, wheather, rather than tons pf small issues.

What time of the year is harder for you?
Some have it harsh in November, while I myself and others find it harder in March April.

You can also get some extra days if you can make your holidays fall into national holidays like easter or Christmas.
