I signed up for the basic Finnish course at Helsinki U, but I dropped out after a few days due to a pretty bad case of social anxiety. The professor had us get up and talk to people in Finnish on several occasions, and I felt extremely uncomfortable. Make no mistake: I know this is part of the learning process for a language, but understand that it's hard enough for me to be in a group of people conversing in English, let alone a foreign language. So please, I don't need to be reminded about the importance of interaction. I seen no reason that I can't learn Finnish in a more individual setting, but I also know I can't learn this language on my own.
That said, does anyone know of any companies that offer more individualised Finnish lessons, like a private tutor? Only restrictions are they have to be in Helsinki, and they have to have flexible scheduling. Until I find a better way to manage my anxiety, this is how it has to be.
